Chris Dragan

My name is Chris Dragan. I create art. Some people keep journals; for me, my artwork is my journal. My style incorporates elements of contemporary pop and abstract art, set against iconic images, pretentious smears, and other preposterous offerings.

My intent is for you to engage with and interpret each piece in your own way and be rewarded by the interaction. I especially strive to create pieces that convey different meanings when viewed up close and from afar.

The two earliest and most influential interactions with art that I can recall are as follow:

1) As a child, my Mom (also an artist) would sketch Sesame Street characters in pencil for me to color and recreate. It was like magic watching her hands effortlessly and joyfully create these tiny masterpieces in front of my eyes.

2) In my childhood home, my parents displayed a print of “Lincoln in Dalivision,” which I’m pretty sure planted the seeds of multi-interpretation, pixelated, pop-abstract art. It took me a while to realize this, but it’s obvious in retrospect that seeing this image daily in my formative years played an outsized role in my artistic interest.

Primary media include acrylics, oils, inks, watercolor, chalk, vintage magazines, books & comics, mismatched hardware, and other discarded treasures.

I have been active in the southeastern Michigan art community since 2016 and I have had the honor of displaying at a variety of local venues including:

…and other metro Detroit galleries and businesses.
